DIY Christmas Clothes

The holiday season is a time for joy, laughter, and often a bit of creativity. Over the past few years a craze has been sweeping the holidays and it is something that is fun, unique and can involve the whole family. I am talking about Ugly Christmas Sweaters. For years, I dreaded opening gifts from older relatives, holding my breath and praying that inside that little white box there wasn’t yet another ugly sweater. Gift givers and receivers of today, are relishing in this quirky little tradition and you can even purchase them in most chain stores as well…who knew!

The great thing about Ugly Christmas sweaters is that you can actually make them at home! Here are a few tips to help you deck out your family with holiday cheer, and a little tacky fashion this year!

christmas socks

Socks: I think we all have a few single holiday socks laying around our homes. Take a sweater and attach those old socks, add a little flair and you are ready to dazzle!

christmas tie

Holiday Ties: Do you have any holiday ties just begging to be worn? Use them to make a tree for this festive little number. You finally won’t be lying when you tell that relative “Oh yeah, I wear that tie all the time!”

Christmas Tree Sweater

Christmas Tree: Your sweater can also become a disguise! With a little garland, a few ornaments and some hot glue you can transform yourself into a Christmas tree!

Reindeer Sweater

Reindeer: With a little felt and some crafting supplies you can create a reindeer that is fit for santa’s sleigh…no carrots or feeding required!
Bottle Cap Tree: If you are feeling extra creative (and maybe a little thirsty) this sweater is ready to party. All you’ll need is some bottle caps, a glue gun, some tinsel and maybe make sure you’re close to a bathroom!

Whether you are looking to party or just looking for some fun with the family, an ugly sweater is no longer out of style. So strut your tacky, take some pictures, and enjoy the holidays!
